Chelsea Ladies appeared in the Women’s FA Cup final for the first time since being founded in 1992, but despite taking the lead twice once in 90 minutes and again in extra-time, they couldn’t hold on and eventually lost 3-2 on penalties, again with Chelsea Ladies taking a 1-0 lead from the first round of penalties.

Lander and her second half replacement Longhurst scored the Chelsea goals at Ashton Gate, Bristol in front of just under 9,000 fans, but the Ladies were pegged back twice by a determined Birmingham City, who were also playing in their first FA Cup final.

It was the first final for 7 seasons that did not feature Arsenal Ladies who are the dominant force in the women’s game as they were dispatched in the Semi-Finals by Chelsea Ladies in a 2-0 victory.

The Loss ended Chelsea’s hopes of securing the clean sweep of 4 FA Cup trophies this season with the Men, Youth and Women’s Youth all winning their respective cup finals.┬áNo team has ever won those three in the same season.
